ProtoCAM teamed up with East Penn Lower Macungie Middle School to take home several wins in Dream It. Do It. PA’s 2018 student video contest, “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” Local manufacturers worked together with 30 middle school teams from Lehigh, Northampton, and Carbon counties to create videos demonstrating how manufacturing can be fun and interesting. Upon completion, the videos were then put to a public vote and judged on a number of categories.

ProtoCAM worked with students from East Penn Lower Macungie to create a video demonstrating the latest technologies and innovations at ProtoCAM. The goal of the video contest is to “generate excitement about manufacturing careers by giving students direct access to local manufacturers to find out why they love their jobs.”

This is the fifth iteration of the popular event, and ProtoCAM’s third year participating. 30 schools and manufacturers participated for 2018 in the Lehigh Valley contest, while more than 200 teams participated in all contests held through the state. Videos were created earlier this year, and almost 130,000 votes rolled in from February 21nd though the 23th at the “What’s So Cool” website for the coveted Viewers’ Choice award.

At the Lehigh Valley awards event held at ArtsQuest Steel Stacks in Bethlehem, PA, all of the videos and participants were showcased. Awards in various categories were presented, including Outstanding Videography, Outstanding Creativity, and Outstanding Cool. ProtoCAM and East Penn Lower Macungie were thrilled to win an award for Outstanding Editing, and also placed 3rd in most overall public votes. In previous years, ProtoCAM’s teams have won for Outstanding Educational Value and Outstanding Team Spirit. The ProtoCAM and Lower Macungie team also received a special shoutout from President and CEO of the Manufacturers Resource Center (MRC), Jack Pfunder for their unique logo placement and video creativity.
