ProtoCAM: Additive Manufacturing, 3D Printing and Rapid Prototyping.

Additive Manufacturing Industry History

January 21, 2015

20Years_600wide

For more than 20 years, ProtoCAM has delivered value-added rapid prototyping services to customers across the nation – and around the world. With the new year here, we’re looking forward to how we’ll keep driving the industry forward over the next 20 years.

In the last year alone, ProtoCAM …

• Celebrated one year in our new state-of-the-art building
• Unveiled a new logo and launched a new website
• Grew our customer base, both locally and globally
• Added engineers to meet the increasing demands of our customers
• Expanded our array of state-of-the-art additive manufacturing equipment
• Nominated for Lehigh Valley Business of the year
• Wished our good friend, co-founder Ray Biery, a happy retirement and promoted founding owner Ron Belknap to President & CEO

From the looks of it, 2015 will be even better. We’re proud to be on the vanguard of what many are calling the “New Industrial Revolution” – enterprise-class 3D printing and additive manufacturing radically changing the face of engineering, prototyping and product development. Advances in technology, materials and methods are making ever-more complex designs attainable quickly and cost-effectively.

ProtoCAM, for instance, is one of the few service bureaus in the world with the ability to rapidly create multi-material, full-color prototypes, thanks to our state-of-the-art Stratasys Objet500 Connex3 industrial 3D printer. With the Connex3 at our disposal, what were once time-consuming and difficult manual tasks are now fully automated. Overmolding, flexibility and snap-fit pieces are now possible … in nearly any color (or colors) imaginable.

We have also perfected a new, proprietary clear bottle finish that creates a truly transparent prototype, rather than the semi-cloudy finish that is the industry standard for parts with a large internal surface area and a small opening. ProtoCAM’s customers – and only ProtoCAM’s customers – can now achieve a prototype that perfectly mimics a PET bottle or reveals the internal workings of a valve without impediment.

Best of all, those advances are just the beginning. Our additive manufacturing engineers are always keeping their eyes on the latest innovations in the industry so we can deliver the very best results for our customers. The goal? Driving innovation and moving the industry – and our customers’ results – forward, in 2015 and beyond.
