ProtoCAM creates plastic casting prototypes
by using specially-formulated phenolic resins to create high
performance parts that can be used in high temperature or
other demanding applications. High performance plastic castings
offer superior mechanical and high temperature properties.
ProtoCAM's high strength plastic castings can be produced
cost effectively in as little as 2 weeks. These plastic castings
for high temperatures allow product testing in extreme testing
environments. High strength plastic prototype castings are
suitable for automotive “"under the hood" applications,
providing performance in high temperature conditions along
with substantial weight savings and improved efficiency for
plastic prototypes.
ProtoCAM's Innovative Process for Plastic Casting / High Temperature
Casting
ProtoCAM continues to innovate with a new rapid manufacturing process called High Performance Casting. This proprietary process, utilizing a thermoset material or phenolic thermopolymer, allows production of high strength plastic castings with superior mechanical and high temperature properties, while exhibiting excellent dimensional stability. Applications for these plastic casting prototypes include thick wall product designs, converting metal castings to plastic, as well as prototyping and testing thermoplastic part designs.
ProtoCAM's High Performance Casting material
is specially formulated to replicate high-end, engineering-grade
thermoplastics such as Ultem®,
Radel® and Torlon®. Previously, plastic casting prototypes
that replicated high-end engineering-grade thermoplastic products
were expensive, time-consuming to produce, and lacked the performance
required for proper testing. However, ProtoCAM's High Performance
Castings can be produced quickly and cost effectively. High strength
plastic castings will perform well in demanding testing environments
where prototype urethane castings would fail.
Applications for High Performance Plastic Castings
These high temperature castings should be considered for part designs that require the material properties of both metal and plastic that these high strength plastic castings provide. Plastic is a lightweight insulator and metal is a conductive material that can be quite heavy. A particular part design may require a final product to have metal-like mechanical properties and insulating properties of plastic. For instance, an aluminum housing that is exposed to high heat will transfer the heat to sensitive internal components causing premature failures. ProtoCAM’s High Performance Castings would protect the internal components from the damaging heat. These plastic castings for high temperatures are suitable for automotive and industrial “under the hood” applications, providing a substantial weight savings and resulting in improved efficiency. Applications for these high strength plastic castings include automotive, industrial, aerospace and defense industries.
