ProtoCAM has rich experience in working with
product development engineers, designers, and inventors on rapid
prototyping and rapid manufacturing for consumer goods. This
case study discusses ProtoCAM"s work with inventor and product designer Mill Wallace on his Clearly Clean™ paint
roller and cleaning system. Wallace worked with ProtoCAM from
initial sketch to prototype.
Wallace's product combines everything
a painter would need in a roller painter, including the frame
for the paint roller, a transparent paint splatter protector,
an attached snap-on scraper tool for saving paint, and a water
hose connection so that the user can clean the entire device
quickly and easily.
Wallace approached ProtoCAM with his sketch of the design for this innovative consumer product. He utilized ProtoCAM"s
3D CAD modeling services and manufacturing consulting services to take his concept through to completed prototype. ProtoCAM used these steps in working with Wallace on this project:
- Developed 3D CAD models
- Reviewed / revised CAD drawings with customer
- Made sure product is designed for manufacturability
- 2 SLA models created and approved
- Urethane castings created in close-to-final colors and textures using RTV molding
- Final product prototype had 5 pieces and was ready to manufacture with injection molding.
Key Benefits of Working with ProtoCAM
- Fast turn-around
- Engineering assistance
Confidentiality of your design is assured
- Consumer goods prototype manufacturing expertise
Results
Mill Wallace was very satisfied with ProtoCAM"s consumer goods prototype manufacturing expertise on this project, and was particularly impressed with the timeliness of their work as all project deadlines were met. He has used the prototype to attract a partner to help market and manufacture this new product.
